A garage door brand with an unusual origin story — and a simple mission today.
Garage Beacon started life in 2014 as an actual gadget: a Kickstarter-funded smart device that turned your smartphone into a garage door remote, built by Garage Beacon LLC of Powell, Ohio. It earned write-ups from tech and home publications, a run through a startup accelerator, and a small community of happy early adopters before the product era wound down.
Today, Garage Beacon carries the name forward with a different job: helping homeowners handle garage door problems without the runaround. We publish plain-English repair answers — springs, openers, cables, tracks, panels — built from manufacturer documentation and field practice, and we connect callers with independent local garage door professionals who can actually show up and fix things, often the same day.
Garage Beacon is a free referral service. When you call, you’re connected with an independent local service professional from our network, and service providers may compensate us for those connections. You never pay us anything, and the quote you accept always comes from — and is owed to — the professional doing the work. That’s the whole model.
Every page on this site is checked against manufacturer documentation and U.S. safety standards (like the photo-eye requirements in effect since 1993). Where a repair is genuinely dangerous to DIY — springs, cables, anything under tension — we say so bluntly rather than optimize for clicks. If you find something out of date, tell us and we’ll fix it.
